25 July - 15 August 2010: Following the success of the first summer school in July 2009, the second EURO-FOS summer school was organized in collaboration with DTU Fotonik in Copenhagen, Denmark. The event was specifically organized by the Section for Communication Technology at DTU Fotonik as part of the DTU Summer University program. The target group of the event was students in the middle of a 5 year program for an Electronics, Telecommunication, or Computer Engineering degree. The students that were selected wient through an exam at the end of the program and got a certificate of the participation in the summer school.
Within the framework of the summer school, participants had the chance to get hand-on experience with photonic systems and subsystems by carrying out a number of experimental small-scale projects. EURO-FOS participated by setting up four of these projects, each one being related with one of the EURO-FOS centres of excellence (CEs).Researchers from the consortium visited DTU and prepared the introductory presentations and the experimental setups for the conduction of the exercises.

21-23 September 2009: EURO-FOS had a booth (#266) at the 35th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication Conference (ECOC) held in Vienna, Austria.
Visitors had the opportunity to meet researchers from EURO-FOS and discuss possible collaboration frames, current Network activities and recent results coming out of EURO-FOS joint experimental activities that included:
Performance of higher-modulation formats with coherent detection and electronic distortion equalization
Optical Time Domain Multiplexed systems enabling terabit-capacity transmission systems
High-speed and functional switching systems performing intelligent functionalities in the physical layer
New systems and concepts for high-speed and scalable WDM-based Passive Optical Networks
Moreover, currently running European research projects in the photonics area were presented.
10-11 September 2009: The 4th concertation meeting on "Photonics-Enabled Applications" will focus on the role played by photonic components as enablers for applications, i.e. applications or devices which depend on photonic components for their fabrication or require them to operate, with or without a photonic component embedded in the final system. The event will address in particular:
Latest breakthroughs from photonic components research
Standardication
Scope of ICT Call-5 Objective ICT-2009.3.7 "Photonics"
There will also be a guided tour of the Photonics Communications research Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens. For more information click here
Past Event: 1st Summer School
8-10 July 2009: Attend EURO-FOS summer school organized in Athens, Greece. The school will take place at AIT's premises and addresses MSc and PhD students and young professionals interested in learning both fundamentals and latest developments of photonics applicable to telecommunications. The school programme can be downloaded here. For more information on the summer school click here
