Second EURO-FOS Student Research Award (2011)
In June 2011 EURO-FOS Network of Excellence launched its 2nd Call for Student Research Award of the EURO-FOS Network of Excellence, as a recognition and reward of the research efforts of the PhD students and their contribution in the advancements of the Photonics Systems related technology. The Call applied for all the PhD students on photonics communication technologies, who have either completed their thesis during the academic year 2010-2011, or were about to do so within 2011. The call was open for all the PhD Students on photonics of the European academic institutions.
14 candidacies candidacies were submitted in total and the prize for the winner of the Award was the reimbursement by EURO-FOS of the expenses for participation to the ECOC 2011 event.
A vast majority of the reviewers of the submitted cndidacies voted that the prize should be given to:

awarded for the research work performed in his PhD thesis titled
"Characterization and Design of Multifunction Photonic Devices for Next Generation Fiber-to-the-Home Optical Network Units".
The winner was invited at ECOC 2011 in order to receive his award (Figure 3). Awarding of the prize took place on Sunday 18 September 2011 at Geneva, in the beginning of the afternoon workshop titled "Link design: A forgotten art?". The prize was awarded by Dr. Andrea Carena, Assistant Professor in Electronics Department of Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) who chairs the session together with Gabriel Chalet from Alcatel-Lucent, France.
